UFPE garante continuidade das pesquisas na Antártica -

Vice-reitor Moacyr Araújo coordena o projeto e está atualmente na Antártica

As pesquisas da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) na Antártica terão continuidade após 2024, visto que o “Projeto Mephysto 2 – Impactos das Mudanças Climáticas na Ocorrência de Eventos Extremos e na Biocomplexidade e Interações Físico-Químico-Biológicas no Atlântico Sudoeste e Península Antártica”, coordenado pelo vice-reitor Moacyr Araújo, está entre as oito propostas aprovadas na CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT nº 08/2023 – Programa Antártico Brasileiro (Proantar). A lista foi divulgada pelo Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPQ) na segunda-feira (6).

O vice-reitor Moacyr Araújo, que é professor do Departamento de Oceanografia da UFPE, afirma que “este resultado garante a participação da UFPE por mais quatro anos na pesquisa científica em altas latitudes”. “Foi um edital muito concorrido, com mais de 100 propostas encaminhadas. Estamos todos muito felizes, seja pelo reconhecimento do trabalho realizado nos últimos quatro anos, seja pela confirmação da excelência desenvolvida pela e sobre a coordenação da nossa Universidade”, destacou ele. O projeto aprovado na Linha 1 Criosfera, Dinâmica Atmosférica e Mudanças Climáticas receberá R$ 1.523.000,00.

O Projeto Mephysto 2 conta com a participação de sete instituições de pesquisa brasileiras e cinco de outros países (Chile, Alemanha, Estados Unidos e Portugal). Ele é uma continuidade do Mephysto 1, que terminará em meados de 2024. No final de outubro, o professor Moacyr e outros pesquisadores da UFPE embarcaram para mais uma expedição científica na Antártica.
